About Denver Spouses of Doctors & Medical Residents Meetup Group

This group is open to anyone in the Denver Metro Area who is partnered with someone in medicine; whether you're in med school, residency, or practicing. This group is for all of us who need the support and encouragement from people in the "same boat". Being partnered with someone in medicine brings certain challenges and it makes those challenges easier to take on when there are others who can help you along.

The Organizers in this group are in different stages of the medical family journey. Nahid, Nita, and I are married to practicing physicians, but still in different stages of life. Julie, Matt, Miranda, & Julie B are resident spouses and Rebecca is a medical student spouse.

The more experienced members of the group are eager to mentor the younger members since we have been through med school and/or residency with our spouses. No need to reinvent the wheel, it's possible you'll learn from the challenges we've faced and our moments of brilliance.
We also want you to know about the issues that affect medicine, such as state and national healthcare legislation affecting our physician spouses.

All the members of the group are here for each other. Having gone through it, I can't tell you how nice it was (and still is) for me to have friends who knew exactly what I was going through when my spouse was on call every other night and I hadn't seen him for 4 days.

This group will have various events planned for the varied interests of its members. If you'd like to see something included, don't be afraid to mention it to one of the Organizers and we can put it on the calendar.

Many members of this meetup group are also a part of the CU Medical School sponsored organization: All 'Bout Couples and Families (ABC). In fact, ABC uses this website to help promote its events. We invite all meetup members to attend the ABC events listed on the calendar. (It just means that the medical school is paying for the food!)

All 'Bout Couples and Families (ABC) is a CU Medical School sponsored student organization that strives to provide support to medical students with families or significant others. The challenges of medical school can be particularly hard on the students' relationships with their spouses, partners, fiancés, and children. ABC aims to provide a framework for students and their families to adapt to the transitions of medical school and beyond.

ABC sponsors a wide variety of activities designed to increase support for significant others, our families, and the student. Some of these events are Spouse Orientation Night, Welcome Picnic, Medical Marriage Panel, Transition to 3rd Year and lectures by doctors on how to maintain good relationships.

We also have playgroups that meet weekly, listing of local daycare providers, and a newsletter. If you are interested in getting more info about ABC including the newsletter please email Rebecca (an assistant organizer).
